AD Foodie: Pickl: Breakfast Edition

Tired of eating the cheese omelet and turkey ham from D2? Or, do you just want to try out what breakfast looks like in a burger joint? Pickl Gardens Plaza in Khalifa City might be the perfect spot for you!

I am not a breakfast person. Back home, breakfast is very simple — a croissant and some coffee, or perhaps a small sandwich from the store next to your school/office. I do appreciate a good scrambled egg with some crispy turkey bacon on the side, but D2 has really been getting old. So, when Pickl reached out to the Gazelle Team and offered to host us and show off their brand-new Breakfast menu, I knew I could not miss the opportunity!
So, with empty stomachs, we entered the taxi in front of the Welcome Center, and 30 minutes later found ourselves at Pickl in Gardens Plaza in Khalifa City. While the taxi ride was around AED70, splitting it among four friends made it less burdensome.
Surrounded by shops and restaurants, Pickl has beautiful outdoor and indoor seating areas with a lot of space to choose from! Since we came on Saturday morning, the whole Plaza area was very calm - perfect for a chill breakfast with friends. Pickl works 24/7 at this location, and its breakfast menu is served 5-11 a.m.
Since Pickl invited us to try out their new breakfast menu, we had the privilege to try every option available! From the crispy tater tots, to the juicy breakfast burgers, here’s what AD Foodie and the Gazelle recommends:
We started out with crispy Breakfast Tots and Messy Tots. Think hashbrowns, but smaller and better. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, these Tots offered an amazing starting dish to wake up taste-buds. The Messy Tots were drenched in the Pickl signature sauce and crunchy beef bacon — my favourite of the day! The sauce added a perfect kick to the hot Tots, and the bacon really made the potato flavor stick out.
As we were finishing up the Tots, our breakfast burgers began rolling out. Pickl’s breakfast is fully made to order, and fully customizable to your wishes. While we got the six main versions of their breakfast meals, we had the option to add and adjust to our heart’s desire.
We started with a Bacon Egg Cheese breakfast bun, which was the perfect way to indulge. It had an amazing, soft bun, with fresh lettuce, runny egg and amazing sauce. For lovers of crunchy bacon, this one was the go-to.
After that, we tried out the Double Bacon Eggs Cheese, which had a hefty amount of fresh jalapenos, which added the perfect, refreshing kick to every bite. The buns were amazingly soft and complimented the jalapenos, eggs, cheese and the double bacon.
Our next bun was Pickl’s take on the BLT — a refreshing, crunchy burger with bacon, lettuce, and tomatoes, served in the classic, soft Pickl bun. This one was the perfect meal for someone who is not the biggest fan of eggs in the morning, as it is refreshing yet filling.
Our next burger was the Double Eggs Cheese burger, and this one was among our favourites! If you are an egg lover, do not miss out on this egg-celent, soft breakfast burger, complete with just the right amount of cheese.
The last two burgers we tried out were Patty Egg cheese and Patty Bacon Egg Cheese — while these names might sound confusing, they represent all of the possible options and combinations you can opt in for! In these two burgers, we had similar topics as before, but this time, they were situated on top of the classic, mouth-watering Pickl beef patties. While not your classic breakfast food, these two meals were among the team’s favourites. I see them as the best choices if you need to eat breakfast which will keep you filled for the rest of the day.
So, with that, our breakfast came to a close. While admittedly a bit far from campus, I absolutely recommend you visit Pickl’s and try its breakfast menu! The options are fully customizable and made to order, and there are various toppings to choose from. The buns were soft in classic Pickl style, the eggs tasted like real eggs (uncommon for Abu Dhabi), and all of the options were flavorful in their own way. I will definitely be coming back for seconds!
